Injury Committee Annual Report
posted: Friday, May 28, 2010
INAAP collaborated with members of the California District 4 chapter of the AAP to update educational materials summarizing proper choice and use of child safety seats.
Ambulance Transport
INAAP assisted in the development and contributed expertise for a National AAP webinar on safe transport of infants and children in ambulances. Greater than 350 AAP members and affiliates viewed and participated in the webinar.
Legislative Support:
Teen driving:
INAAP provided expert testimony and help to lead a coalition of teen driving advocates to promote important changes in Indiana’s Graduated Driver License law including late licensure, passenger restrictions and nighttime driving restrictions to improve the safety of teen drivers.
Legislative Committee INAAP hosted a legislative evening event for federal and state legislators to share our opinions and the opinions of parents of children with special healthcare needs regarding the proposed health care legislation. Representatives from Senators Bayh and Lugar and Representative Carson’s office listened to a presentation from the AAP Washington DC office on proposed changes in healthcare that would benefit children. Local pediatricians and parents shared their problems and needs with the legislators and how the federal government could improve healthcare. During the course of the national debate, INAAP frequently updated members on the legislative progress on healthcare.
Issues and Perspectives Annual Report

Fall Legislative Event: As health care reform was the largest issue for INAAP in the fall we concentrated on the Fall Legislative Event and had an evening with legislators and INAAP membership discussing the issues. Dr. O’Neil has highlighted this event in his report.
H1N1 Epidemic: As November 2009 approached, the H1N1 epidemic was the largest issue and we worked with members to get questions answered and share information and resources of ISDH with INAAP membership. We took a survey of INAAP members to plan a specific I & P meeting to answer further questions about H1N1 vaccine distribution, but as the holiday’s came and the infection rates waned, we did not pursue a meeting.
