Measles Cases Surging in 2026

The United States is facing a concerning spike in measles cases just two months into 2026. According to recent data from the CDC, confirmed cases have already topped 1,100, reaching nearly half of last year’s record-setting total in a fraction of the time. With 1,136 cases reported across 28 states, health officials are closely monitoring the situation as the numbers threaten to surpass the 2,281 cases recorded in 2025—which was already the highest count the country had seen since 1992.

The outbreak is hitting certain regions particularly hard, with South Carolina, Utah, and Florida leading the nation in confirmed infections. Experts warn that these figures may only represent the tip of the iceberg, as the official count does not include "probable" cases or the many infections that go unreported. As measles continues to spread through domestic communities and international travel, medical professionals are emphasizing the importance of staying informed and ensuring vaccinations are up to date to curb this rapid upward trend.
