Help Us Share the Power of Reading This Giving Tuesday!
Our goal is simple: to ensure that every child has access to books that reflect their world, offer a lens into other worlds, and spark confidence . This mission drives our work every day at the Indiana Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics. Books can transform a child’s experience, nurture their sense of identity, and strengthen families. Early reading also makes a profound difference—children whose families begin reading together from the very start are better prepar

As you likely know, the CDC website now promotes false claims that vaccines may cause autism. There is no link between vaccines and autism. This false association has been thoroughly investigated and debunked multiple times. However, the element of doubt added by a formerly credible website may well result in patients having concerns about vaccines and autism. All major medical organizations, including the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Pediatrics, the

AAP Continues Long-Term Efforts to Reduce Nicotine Harm
The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) has long championed policies to protect youth from nicotine exposure and addiction. With traditional cigarette use declining but e-cigarette use rising among teens, the AAP continues to push for strong federal action to keep these products out of young hands. In 2025, the FDA proposed a rule to limit nicotine levels in combustible tobacco products, and the AAP—alongside nearly 80 public health organizations—voiced strong support, urgin

The U.S. eliminated measles in 2000 , but as misinformation has spread, vaccination rates have declined, leading to an increase in measles cases. There have been 1,648 confirmed cases this yea

Peanut allergies in children drop after recommendations for early introduction
In 2015, the Learning Early About Peanut Allergy study found peanut introduction among infants ages 4-11 months with severe atopic dermatitis and/or egg allergy significantly reduced the risk of peanut allergy. Later that year, medical groups released guidance on early introduction of peanut to these high-risk infants. In 2017, addendum guidelines endorsed by the AAP called for introduction as early as 4-6 months for high-risk infants and 6 months for moderate-risk infants. I
