Vaping and Mental Health in Youth

A recent study from the Truth Initiative, published in the Journal of Adolescent Health, highlights a powerful shift in how young people view e-cigarette use. While many teens and young adults initially turn to vaping as a way to cope with stress or anxiety, the research shows that those who recognize nicotine’s role in worsening mental health are significantly more likely to quit. Specifically, young people who agreed that vaping can intensify feelings of depression and anxiety had double the odds of planning to quit within the year and five times the odds of having already quit.
