Peanut allergies in children drop after recommendations for early introduction

In 2015, the Learning Early About Peanut Allergy study found peanut introduction among infants ages 4-11 months with severe atopic dermatitis and/or egg allergy significantly reduced the risk of peanut allergy. Later that year, medical groups released guidance on early introduction of peanut to these high-risk infants. In 2017, addendum guidelines endorsed by the AAP called for introduction as early as 4-6 months for high-risk infants and 6 months for moderate-risk infants. Infants without risk factors can introduce peanut when age appropriate in accordance with family preferences, according to the addendum.
