Reach and Read Indiana

As pediatricians, we know that a child's health is about much more than physical growth. The earliest years of life are critical for brain development, language acquisition, social-emotional health, and the lifelong relationships that shape a child's future.

That is why the Indiana Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics is proud to support Reach Out and Read Indiana.

Reading aloud with young children strengthens the parent-child bond, builds language and early literacy skills, supports healthy brain development, and prepares children for success in school and beyond. When pediatric providers place a book into a child's hands during a well-child visit, they are doing far more than giving a gift, they are prescribing one of the most effective tools we have to promote healthy development.

This summer, pediatricians and community leaders from across Indiana have come together to volunteer as our 2026 Champions for Literacy to help expand access to books for children and families. Hear why this mission matters to them in our new Champion for Literacy video

With just four weeks left in the campaign, we're asking our INAAP community to help us finish strong. Watch the video, share it with your network, and consider making a gift to support early literacy across Indiana.

If Reach Out and Read has impacted your patients, your practice, or your own family, I hope you'll consider supporting the Champion for Literacy Campaign. Every $2.50 provides one brand-new book to a child during a well-child visit, creating opportunities for healthier development and stronger family connections.

Together, we can ensure that more Indiana children have the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive.

Thank you for everything you do for the children and families of Indiana.
