This webinar will focus on the July 2025 American Academy of Pediatrics clinical report, “Genetic Evaluation of the Child With Intellectual Disability or Global Developmental Delay.” Participants will receive an up-to-date overview of what genetic testing is now recommended for children with developmental delays, including how testing approaches have evolved and why certain studies are becoming first-line evaluations.
The session will walk through the benefits and limitations of today’s genetic testing technologies, helping pediatricians understand when to order specific tests, how to interpret results, and how to talk with families about what genetic answers can—and cannot—provide.
In addition, the webinar will cover important logistical and ethical considerations, such as insurance barriers, consent, secondary findings, and the broader implications of genetic information for families. Finally, attendees will learn about the genetics resources available across Indiana that can support pediatricians in ordering tests, managing results, and referring patients for specialized care.
